Baystate Medical Center launches annual heart lecture series

Posted: Updated:

Sunday was the first day of Baystate Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Health lecture series.

All of the lectures will be held at the Baystate Health Education Center on Whitney Avenue, and they are designed to inform people on the latest advances in heart and vascular care.

Sunday's presentation focused on simple steps to help maintain optimal heart health.

Those in attendance said they are always looking for ways to improve their health.

"Well, we've always been health conscious, and we always like to improve our knowledge," said John Murk, a Chicopee resident whose father died from heart issues. "Change of diet, exercise, [we want to] just to find out if we're doing the right thing and what else we can do to further improve our health."

"Heart disease is the no. 1 killer of people in America," said Dr. Quinn Pack, the medical director of cardiac rehabilitation at Baystate. "Many of the people here either have heart disease or have a friend or a family who has heart disease, so the people are engaged."

Other lectures in the heart and vascular health series will be held throughout the month of Februar,y and they are free of charge.
