Robbery suspect, alleged drug dealer arrested with loaded handgun

Posted: Updated:

A Springfield man was a suspect in a Saturday evening robbery after police saw him nearby the crime scene and identified him as matching the description of the alleged robber, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.

The robbery occurred at the XPress Gas and Food Mart on State Street. Members of the Springfield Police Street Crime Unit recognized the man in the nearby Wok King Restaurant. He was known to be wanted on active arrest warrants, Delaney said.

The man, identified as 22-year-old Nagee W. Jones, of 59 Loring St., Springfield, was searched and police found a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, Delaney said. The gun was reportedly stolen in July from Granby, CT.

Once Jones was in custody, officers found crack cocaine and oxycontin pills that were packaged for sale on Jones, Delaney said. The officers also located a license belonging to a victim of an armed street robbery that occurred Friday on Andrews Street.

Detectives looked to tie Jones in several armed robberies that recently occurred in Springfield.

Police charged Jones with carrying a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, and receiving stolen property.
