Local businesses thriving do to snow

Posted: Updated:

To the dismay of many around Western Mass, another winter storm is brewing.

Believe it or not, some people look forward to the snow fall.

Scott Robbins and his team at Rocky's Ace Hardware in East Longmeadow are welcoming the arrival of Wednesday's storm.

"Business has been good. We've had a bunch of little spouts this winter," said Robbins.

The store sees a boost in business every time the snow rolls into town.

"It's been a real busy day. A lot of people are coming in for ice melt or shovels," explained Robbins.

One of those people being Sue O'Malley and her son, Patrick, both of Springfield.

"Two of our shovels are broken," said Sue.

Recent snow storms have given the wear and tear to the O'Malley's snow equipment. Now they're restocking so Patrick and his dad, but not Sue, can be prepared for the storm.

"I'm not shoveling. It's my husband and my son," said Sue.

"I don't do too much, I just kind of do the light work," said Patrick.

And from the shovels, to the sand to the roof scrapers, residents like Frank Ryan, of Springfield, are stocking up for the next two storms that are expected this week.

"We got two snow storms coming, so you better stack up while you can," said Ryan.

Robbins said the store is thankful for a busy winter but is already preparing for their next season rush.

"Winter keeps going on, but at the same time we're getting ready for a successful spring season too, so either way is fine with us," said Robbins.
