Western New England University held its 15th annual Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday.
Girls from the ages of 7 to 12 took part in the event, which is designed to expose the participants to sports they might not have taken part in previously.
Organizers said it is a day they look forward to each year.
"Our main goal is to bring girls out from the community, from Springfield and from the surrounding communities, to really introduce them to sports that they may not have participated in and, most of all, inspire them," said WNEU Tennis Coach Jennifer Kolins.
"I liked swimming, but I really enjoyed volleyball," said 10-year-old Emma Magnani. "I've never really played volleyball, but now that I've seen the experience of it, I really want to play now."
The event was free, but participants were asked to bring a personal hygiene item to be donated to a local domestic violence shelter.
