A Bridgeport trucker has pleaded guilty to the theft of more than 100 firearms from Smith & Wesson in Springfield.
Elliot Perez pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Hartford on Tuesday.
U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly says the stolen guns are turning up in criminal investigations as far away as North Carolina.
Documents and court statements say 28-year-old Perez picked up boxes of firearms from the Smith & Wesson manufacturing plant on Nov. 8, 2012, and stole other boxes with a total of 111 firearms.
Perez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and sell stolen firearms and other charges. He faces up to 20 years when sentenced on May 7.
Michael Murphy, an associate of Perez's, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and sell stolen firearms and other charges.
