Holyoke Mall:

The Holyoke Mall will close at 4 p.m. Thursday, but Macy's, Sears and Target will remain open until further notice.  The Holyoke Mall will reopen at 10 a.m. on Friday. 


The Mass Pike speed limit has been reduced to 40 mph. Road conditions will continue to get a lot worse this afternoon, according to CBS 3 Meteorologist Mike Skurko.


The following Massachusetts Trial Courts will close at noon:

  • Worcester County
  • Hampden County
  • Hampshire County
  • Berkshire County
  • Franklin County

Parking bans:

  • Easthampton: 7 a.m. Thursday until 12 p.m. Friday.
  • Greenfield: 9:00 a.m. Thursday until 12:00 p.m. Friday.
  • Longmeadow: From the time snow begins Thursday until 12 hours after the precipitation ends.
  • Monson: 6 a.m. Thursday until further notice.
  • Springfield: No parking on the odd side of the street from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday. No parking on the even side of the street from 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. Thursday.

AMTRAK will operate on a modified schedule Thursday along the East Coast to minimize impact on traveler. Check your local schedule to find out about delays.

Springfield Department of Health and Human Service:

Be aware of food safety in the event of a power outage. Keep your freezer and refrigerator doors closed. Food in a refrigerator can be kept safely for four hours. A freezer will keep temperatures for about 48 hours. When it doubt throw it out!

Down power line warning:

Residents should stay clear of all downed power lines and call 9-1-1 to report them.

Springfield Fire Department:

In the event of a power outage and to avoid fires, residents should not use candles. Residents using backup generators and fireplaces should ensure there is proper ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, especially when using equipment that requires vents or fans for airflow if there is a power outage.

If there is an outage please be sure to turn off all major electrical appliances that may have been on in the event power is restored, especially electrical stoves and heaters. If there is a fire hydrant located in front of your home or business; please assist in keeping hydrants clear and remove the snow around them.

Assisting animals:

Be mindful of dangerously low temperatures and wind chills if you have pets. Two local animal welfare organizations are able to assist domestic animals. The following is the contact information for the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society and the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center

The winter storm will affect southern New England Thursday into Thursday night.  This storm is anticipated to impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes and potentially cause power outages, downed tree limbs, beach erosion, and pockets of minor coastal flooding.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcester counties through Friday morning. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Essex and Norfolk counties through Friday morning.
