Police at Greenfield Community College will now carry guns

GREENFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Campus police at Greenfield Community College will now be allowed to carry guns.

The college's board of trustees voted unanimously to arm members of the school's police department.

GCC President Robert Pura made the proposal about a month ago. School officials said it would take too long for local or state police to respond to a shooter.

Campus police will undergo hours of training before they're able to carry guns.
