Cardinal to be keynote speaker at annual Springfield Diocesan Catholic Conference

Posted: Updated:

Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley will return from Rome and head west to be the keynote speaker at the 12th annual Springfield Diocesan Catholic Men's Conference on March 29.

The event will return to the Bellamy School in Chicopee. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and conclude with a 4 p.m. Mass celebrated by Springfield Bishop Timothy A. McDonnell.

Cardinal O'Malley was considered one of Pope Francis' closest advisers and the only American member of the Pope's group of eight who are reviewing a possible re-organization of the Vatican congregations and offices. His name was even mentioned a year ago during the time leading into the conclave and historic election of Pope Francis.

The day will feature talks by other notables in the Catholic Church; Jason Free will be the facilitator.

The conference also will include time for confession, eucharistic adoration, vendors and a chance to be with other men looking for spiritual growth. Bryan Mercier, a 39-year-old retreat leader, will begin the day. He is the founder of the rock group ‘Revival of Catholic Kids.'
