TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

TODAY'S MOST...Incredible discovery: A couple found millions of dollars worth of gold coins buried in their backyard. The couple will put the coins on the market, and they should sell for about $10 million. This is believed to be the largest single discovery of gold coins in American history.

The husband and wife were walking their dog one day in Sierra Vista, California when they noticed a canister peaking out from the ground. They started digging, brought the canister back into the house, and presto. Then they went back out and dug some more, and ultimately discovered eight canisters.

They found a total of 1,373 $20 coins, 50 $10 coins, and four $5 coins. The coins were dated from 1847 to 1894. Since gold never rusts, after a little cleaning the coins are in mint condition.

They're keeping their identity secret so gold diggers don't come and start trying to find more buried treasure on their property. The couple says they'll donate some of the money from the sale to help the homeless and hungry in the area.

As to the question of who might have buried the coins all those years ago, that remains a mystery.
