CHARDON, OH (WOIO) -
Thursday marks the two-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at Chardon High School and students are honoring their fallen classmates by celebrating their lives all month long.
Russell King, Jr., Demetrius Hewlin and Daniel Parmertor had their lives cut tragically and senselessly short.
The CHS Memorial Committee designed the entire month of February as Hilltopper Kindness Month in memory of the young men who were killed. Students and staff were encouraged to perform simple intentional acts of kindness, in their memory, as a way to make the world a more kind and caring place.
For Danny Parmertor's family two years ago still seems like yesterday.
"It's tough. I know personally I woke up with tears in my eyes because you just think about it and it just breaks your heart. There is not a moment or day that goes by our family doesn't think about him. He was a huge part of our life and when you have somebody taken away you can't fill that void. So right now our family is coping. It helps to know that others are loving us and supporting us even if we don't know them," said Danny's cousin Annamarie Iannetta.
Across town Danny Parmertor's family is gearing up for Danny's Memorial Fundraiser on Saturday.
It's sold out and money raised will help future college freshman from Chardon, Ohio.
"I have to say its an inspiration to see how many people will come out to support out cause that will in turn take a negative and turn it into a positive for students of Chardon High School or Auburn Career Center," added Annamarie Iannetta.
Area churches will have a vigil on the front yard of the high school Thursday night at 7:00. Everyone is welcome to attend.
