UMMC officials are giving insight on how a Holmes County man could be declared dead when he, in fact, was not.
78-year-old Walter "Snowball" Williams, who has a history of congestive heart failure, was pronounced dead last Wednesday in his home in Lexington. Williams was later found to be "alive" at the morgue inside a body bag.
UMMC officials say it's possible that Mr. Williams also suffered from severe hypoglycemia, abnormally low blood sugar, which could make it difficult to detect a pulse.
Williams has a defibrillator and pacemaker which continued operating. The coroner could only rely on breathing and pulse assessments to determine death.
Family members say Williams is receiving hospice care at home.
