The 37th class of the Springfield Citizens Police Academy began Wednesday night.
About 50 students will go through a 10-week course learning everything from crime prevention, community policing, gangs, internal investigations and patrol procedures.
Students in the class come from all different backgrounds who are interested in the work done in the city by police officers and in building community partnerships.
"it's so inspirational to see what the police officers go through and that's why we are here, and to understand better what they go through. they're not just the people who drive around in cars. They have a job to do and they do it very well," said Brian Kingsley, a citizens police academy volunteer.
When the class ends, students will understand the crimes going on around them every day in the Springfield area to better enhance their safety.
