Members of the Springfield Police Street Crime Unit witnessed an alleged drug deal take place near the corner of Saratoga and Dwight streets Wednesday and subsequently made two arrests near South End Middle School.
Two women allegedly involved in the deal got into a red Dodge Caravan and drove to Margaret Street, where police initiated a traffic stop.
Police searched the van and found 21 bags of heroin, three grams of crack cocaine and more than $1,800 cash, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.
Police charged Jessica Chaclas, 27, of 62 Margaret St., with distribution of cocaine and Nicole Madru, 28, of 137 Bosworth St., West Springfield, with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, Delaney said.
Both females were arraigned in Springfield District Court Thursday.
