Springfield narcotics detectives arrested a heroin dealer Tuesday as she was making deliveries throughout the city, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.
Through an investigation detectives determined that 26-year-old Jacqueline Perez, of 38 Clifton Ave. Springfield, was selling heroin, Delaney said.
"Perez would deliver heroin to waiting customers that would contact her via the phone like she was making pizza deliveries," Delaney said.
Detectives spotted her gray Ford Explorer parked on Avon Place in the Metro section of the city at about 7 p.m. They kept her vehicle under surveillance as she entered her car and drove off.
She was tailed to the front of 23 Derryfield Ave., where they witnessed a man, later identified as 34-year-old Michael Kurtzhalts, allegedly buy heroin from Perez.
"Other detectives detained the customer who just made the purchase on Derryfield Avenue and found seven bags of heroin in his pants pocket," Delaney said.
Perez had additional bags of heroin and $850 on her, he said. She was charged with distribution of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, according to an arrest report.
Kurtzhalts was charged with possession of heroin. Both individuals were arraigned Wednesday in Springfield District Court.
