TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson woman is preparing to hike hundreds of miles for a good cause.

Sirena Dufault, 40, is about to go on a long journey, but she says it's all worth it.  She is hitting the trail to raise awareness and money for the Arizona National Scenic Trail.

The hike is 817 miles from the Mexico border across the state of Arizona to Utah.  Dufault expects the hike to take two and half months.

Her goal is to raise $20,000 to help maintain and promote the unique trail.  The money will go towards the non profit, Arizona Trail Association.

She says recent budget cuts has made it difficult to find funding to help maintain the trail.  Now,the last couple days of preparation are here.

Dufault says "I've packed up my entire food for the entire trip for the whole two and half months and what I did was I had a big food packing party. We got it all in bags and all those bags go in boxes which go to certain towns."

she will kick off her trek on Friday.  You can follow her journey and join in on a special hike when she passes through Tucson later this month.
