Springfield firefighters cut the top off a Volkswagen station wagon in order to extricate a victim after her car was involved in an accident with a trash truck Monday morning, according to Dennis Ledger, who is executive aide to the fire commissioner.
Roads were slick with slush and ice at about 9:20 a.m. when the accident occurred. Springfield firefighters responded to 955 Berkshire Ave., following the incident and found a female victim trapped in her car.
The victim was extricated and transported to Baystate Medical Center, Ledger said.
There was no word on the severity of the injuries.
