State police responded to an unattended death along the railroad tracks near Prospect Street in Chester Saturday.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Jacob Stiles, of Chester, was struck and killed by a passing train, according to a news release sent to CBS 3 from the state police media relations office.
Authorities responded to the tracks at about 5:30 p.m. after the crew of a passing Amtrak train reported the body, but they not sure of the exact time Stiles was struck. No train reported hitting the man and no train was on scene when police arrived, the news release stated.
State police are investigating why Stiles was on the tracks.
State and local police are also investigating the death with CSX Police, the railroad law enforcement agency. They will continue to gather further information about trains that were in the area during time period that the man was likely struck.
