Springfield firefighters attend Boston firefighter's funeral

Posted: Updated:

Springfield firefighters and police officers left the city early Thursday morning to attend the funeral of the fallen Boston firefighter Michael Kennedy.

This was the second funeral they attended for the two Boston firefighters who lost their lives battling a fire in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood.

Springfield firefighters said over 10,000 people attended Wednesday's funeral for Lt. Ed Walsh, including firefighters from all across the country.

Randy Blake with the Springfield Fire Department said Wednesday's funeral was an outpouring of love and respect.

"We're tired today. It's an emotional thing. I didn't personally know the firefighters, but it doesn't matter. The thing is, people are there to show the love and respect," said Blake.
