(WMC-TV) - Paramedics rushed a mother and her three daughters to the hospital on Sunday morning after they were rescued from a fire that engulfed their home in Whitehaven.
Not much was left of the home, located on 5100 block of Haleville Road, after the early morning fire destroyed it. Neighbor Sonya Spencer lives next door and woke up to the sound of the commotion next door.
"It was a lot of smoke and you could kind of see dim flames in it, but it was a whole lot of smoke," said Spencer.
Inside of the burning home was a mother, her three young daughters, and a lot of screams.
"One of the older children was trying to wake the other little girl up and she was saying, 'Come on now, come on,' but I assume the little girl couldn't move." added Spencer.
Spencer told WMC Action News 5 that she and her daughter, Airel, ran over to help, but when they touched that front door, it was too hot. Within a matter of minutes, other neighbors ran over to join their efforts.
Together, the neighbors were able to get around back and help the daughters get out of the house. The mother had to be rescued by firefighters. She was rushed to Regional One Medical Center in critical condition. Her daughters were taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. One of the girls was in critical condition, while the other two were non-critical.
