Sophia Richter expected back in Superior Court

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A mother accused of holding three sisters captive in a midtown home is expected to be back in court this morning.

Sophia Richter will be in the Pima County Superior Court this morning at 9:30 a.m. She is back for a status conference.

This allows the court to get any updates and to possibly set a date for the trial.

Tucson Police say Sophia and her husband Fernando Richter kept Sophia's three daughters in dungeon-like isolation and confinement for up to two years.

The girls were discovered after two of them escaped their midtown home and ran to a neighbor for help.

Both Sophia and Fernando Richter are being charged with kidnapping and child abuse in Pima County, they have pleaded not guilty to the charges.  The couple is also facing additional charges in Pinal County, where the family lived prior to moving to Tucson.
