Springfield firefighters extinguished a fire at 315 Tinkham Road on Monday afternoon.
The fire broke out about 1 a.m. while nobody was home, according to the executive aide to the fire commissioner, Dennis G. Leger.
The fire started in the cellar, but caused approximately $30,000 worth of damage to the home after it spread upstairs, Leger said.
The fire remains under investigation by the Springfield Fire Department.
