The woman accused of Springfield's second homicide of 2014 denied the murder charge during her court appearance in Springfield District Court Thursday morning.
Diomaris Valentin, 28, of 97 Tinkham Rd., Springfield, was ordered held without bail after entering a not guilty plea, and had her case continued. She was accused of killing 61-year-old Craig Sheridan after police found him dead in his apartment March 22.
Neighbors initially alerted police of a strange odor coming from his sixth-floor apartment at 5 Temple St. after Sheridan had not been seen in a week, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
Sheridan had been dead for nearly seven days when authorities found his body. Valentin was charged with the murder Wednesday at 2 p.m. following an investigation.
The medical examiner determined the cause of Sheridan's death was homicide, but authorities have not released specific details on how it happened.
