Crews battling blaze in residential Springfield building

Posted: Updated:

Multiple fire crews are on the scene of a residential building on fire in the South End of Springfield.

CBS 3 Springfield's crew on-scene says there are around a dozen fire trucks in the area of 419 Main St.

Roads are closed in the area of Main and Elmwood streets.

Fire officials say the front of the building is a business and the back is a vacant 2 1/2 story residential building.

The fire was called in shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when the business owner smelled smoke.

Customers and the owner tried to put the fire out themselves with an extinguisher but were unable to do so.

No injuries have been reported and no one has been displaced.

The business sustained smoke damage, while the vacant residence sustained most of the fire damage.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is on scene investigating while crews continue to put out the fire.

CBS 3 Springfield will have a live report on CBS 3 Springfield News at 6.
