A water service pipe connecting to a downtown AT&T building broke Monday morning, which led to street flooding and a sidewalk caving in on Bridge Street.
Bridge Street was closed from Dwight Street to Main Street following the break. The water pressure from the break was strong enough to erode the soil under Bridge Street and cause a part of the sidewalk to cave in.
The service pipe was connected to a water main, so there were reports of significant flooding on Bridge Street.
Water and sewer commission crews worked Monday to stop the flooding and ensure that the building would have water, according to Joyce Mulvaney, public communications manager for the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission.
Repair work will continue throughout the week. Check back with CBS 3 for updates regarding traffic and road closure information.
