Posted: Updated:

Springfield police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Monday night on Dorchester Street near Monmouth Street.

Police say a 20-year-old man was driving on his motor scooter about 10:45 p.m. when an unknown person shot him in the back, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

EMT's responded and the victim was taken to a Springfield hospital where he is in good condition.

The victim has a long history with the Springfield Police Department and is a self-proclaimed gang member, according to Delaney.

Detectives continue to investigate the case, but no arrests have been made.

This incident falls on the heels of a gang-related shooting that occurred in Springfield last week where the victim, who was shot in the buttocks, refused to cooperate with police.
