The Veterans Memorial Flagpole in front of Smith and Wesson in Springfield was rededicated Monday.
The monument on Roosevelt Avenue was severely damaged in June 2011 by a storm that also spawned a devastating tornado.
President and CEO of Smith and Wesson James Debney decided the company would pay for the restoration and upkeep of the monument. Debney said, "... it was the right thing to do to get involved and give something back to the community."
Members of the Springfield JROTC were asked to be the first to raise the flag on the new monument at the Memorial Day ceremony. The members said it was an honor to be a part of the ceremony.
Several veterans were also invited and represented conflicts ranging from World War II through the present action in Afghanistan. Many said they were grateful for the monument and the support from the community.
Smith and Wesson also opened the front gates for a celebration following the rededication. The company provided music, food and games for children.
