An 18-year-old Springfield girl was shot and killed in the city's Old Hill neighborhood late Monday night.
The city's Shotspotter system altered authorities to gunshots a 11:44 p.m. First responders found a group of bystanders that pointed them in the direction of the teen who was slumped over on the doorstep of 550 Union St. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney said.
Police secured the crime scene and provided first aid. The teen was rushed to the Baystate Medical Center emergency room, but was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. Tuesday, Delaney said.
Detectives responded to the scene and scoured the neighborhood for witnesses, but no one was able to provide a description of the shooter, Delaney said.
The victim was identified as Lenezzia Clarke, of 444 Central St., Springfield.
This was Springfield's third homicide of 2014. The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made yet.
