Multiple home invasions were reported within 30 minutes of one another early Tuesday morning.
Police responded to 98 Draper St. about 1:30 a.m. after a father and his two children, ages 19 and 21, were startled by a man trying to kick down their door while they were all sitting in the living room, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.
That's when they ran into their attic and called 911 from their cell phones. A witness saw two black men getting into a gray Honda following the invasion and was able to obtain a partial license plate, Delaney said.
The home was ransacked and an individual was assaulted during a May 15 home invasion and the combination of both the incidents led police to Cloran Street, Delaney said.
Authorities found the Honda allegedly used as the getaway car in the driveway of 157 Cloran St. Police subsequently saw a man matching the description of the suspect run next door to 153 Cloran St., Delaney said.
Police surrounded the home and were allowed to enter the residence where they found the suspect hiding. The victims went to the scene and positively identified the man.
Police charged Floyd A. Johnson, 40, of 157 Cloran St., Springfield, with home invasion, armed with a shotgun, Delaney said. He will be arraigned in Springfield District Court.
