A Hillsboro bartender tackled a man with a gun after he threatened patrons.
It happened Tuesday around 11:15 p.m. at Joe's Pastime Tavern on Main Street in downtown Hillsboro, police said.
"Certain people out there are ready for situations like that," said patron Anthony Stone. "I'd like to congratulate (the bartender). I wish he were here right now."
Bartender Micah Hartman had the day off Wednesday, but many people at the tavern were talking about his heroics. The gun turned out to be a replica, but no one knew that at the time.
"Micah's a fantastic guy," said patron Joe Barackman. "I mean, he takes care of his people. He watches over people."
Police said Roy Williams II, 33, pointed a gun at people outside the bar because he didn't like a comment made about his female companion. He then went inside the bar, where Hartman acted quickly.
"He flew to the guy and took the gun out and had him down on the ground in a few seconds," said one of the men threatened with the gun, who didn't want to be identified. "I was really happy (Hartman) was there."
Hartman held Williams until police arrived. Williams faces a menacing charge.
