The Dunbar YMCA family and community center received a makeover on Sunday afternoon.
The Springfield Panthers youth cheerleading squad volunteered their time spreading mulch, planting flowers and cleaning up outside the center.
The team was joined in the cleanup by their coaches and additional volunteers from Springfield's Central High School.
Organizers said that the purpose of Sunday's project was to encourage the squad to take pride in where they live.
"We just wanted to be able to come out here today and give back to the organization and help make the area a little bit more beautiful," said Sarah Williams, program director of the squad. "I think its really important to teach the kids to take pride in where they live and I think it's good for the kids to learn that it's not all about them."
The YMCA of Greater Springfield is the second oldest YMCA in the country and is dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
