Thursday night was a night of prayer, praise and reflection at the YMCA of Greater Springfield as members gathered for a peace walk.
The group met at the Dunbar YMCA center located on Oak Street and walked through the streets of Springfield.
They said this event was held in the wake of the recent violence in the city to promote peace among residents.
"It's really about bringing folks together to do something fun. However, the main reason why we're here is we're here to pray. There's a lot going on in the community, but the main reason why where here is to pray," President and CEO Kirk Smith said.
"When summertime comes and the weather gets good, people tend to be out more and have fun, but also we have an element out there that's not interested in having fun. We're here to bring our community together to walk our streets in prayer to seek God's fate to try to turn the tide of violence," the Rev. Talbert Swan said.
A Zumbathon was also held following the peace walk as a way to promote a healthy, fun summer.
