An 18-year-old was shot and killed early Friday morning at a convenience store in the city's Forest Park neighborhood.
The shooting occurred at 1:47 a.m. at the Racing Mart at Lyndale Street and Summer Avenue.
Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney said police found the male with one or more gunshot wounds to his chest outside 135 Bryant St., which is not far from the store.
The victim was taken to the Baystate emergency room where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 a.m. Authorities did not immediately identify the victim pending notification of family members.
Springfield police detectives roped off the scene and a forensic team was called to gather evidence.
Investigators are talking with witnesses and following leads, and are looking for a male last seen running from the area of the shooting.
He is described as a Hispanic male with black hair, and was wearing a plain gray T-shirt and black shorts. He was reportedly running on Bryant Street toward Belmont Avenue.
No arrests have been made regarding the shooting. This killing was Springfield's sixth homicide of 2014.
