A teen found a box of ashes on the curb in Kansas City, and now he and his mother hope to find the family that they belong to.
Elijah Farley was walking home after lunch on Sunday when he spotted the box off the side of the road near 27th Terrace and Oakley Avenue. The box had "Tina Manning" written on it.
"You don't just throw family members away," Farley said.
He and his mother, Kimberly Farley, called the authorities who came out and took the ashes. The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will verify if they are human ashes as the Farleys believe that they are.
Kimberly Farley knows the sentimental value of the ashes, and she thinks they were discarded without the owner's knowledge.
"I'm thinking maybe it's an accident and somebody wants to have it back," she said.
Her grandfather was cremated in 2009.
"We keep him. He moves everywhere with us. If we moved to a different house, this is a treasure," she said.
The teen and his mother hope that by talking to KCTV5 that the ashes get reunited with their rightful owner.
