FRANKLIN PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
A Franklin Parish woman is behind bars, accused of throwing her toddler from a moving car to get the attention of the child's father.
Deputies say 23-year-old Lasasha Allen, of Winnsboro, shoved her 1-year-old out of the front passenger seat of her car Sunday while driving at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. She had a 7-year-old child in the backseat during the incident.
Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office investigators say the woman spoke to the child's father Saturday and told him the child fell out the car window, in an attempt to get a reaction from him. When that did not work, she staged the event, hoping the child would only get minor injuries, so she would not get caught in a lie by the child's father.
Allen waited a period of time then took her child to the Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. That's when authorities were called.
The child's injuries were severe, and the child was airlifted to a Shreveport hospital for treatment. The child is listed in stable condition pending surgery.
Allen was charged with attempted second-degree murder and is being held in the Franklin Parish Detention Center on a $750,000 bond. Allen's five other children have been placed in the custody of the Department of Child and Family Services, authorities said.
"This was a horrendous act, one that is beyond explanation, Sheriff Kevin Cobb said. "I hope that everyone will pray for that child and its siblings through this ordeal."
"One thing is certain, the child is in a safer place today than in the hands of the mother. Justice can't move quickly enough in this," Cobb added.
