A city man is facing charges after a witness spotted him breaking into a car and reported it to police.
Police received a complaint about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday that a man had broken into a Honda that was located in the parking lot at 780 Chestnut St. Officers received a description and located the suspect at the corner of Main and Medford streets, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
The alleged thief was brought back to Chestnut Street where the witness positively identified him.
Police charged 30-year-old Juan Lopez, of 228 Belmont Ave. with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle for a felony, according to an arrest report.
"This was a good arrest because it showed that with the cooperation from the public combined with the quick response of police arrests and crime is curtailed," Delaney said, adding that the victim was able to get all the belongings back.
