SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Eight city residents are homeless after a fire damaged several apartments around 2 a.m. Saturday.

The fire happened at the complex located at the corner of Dickinson and Cliftwood Streets.

Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told CBS 3 that numerous units suffered damage, but a total of five are considered uninhabitable.

That affected a total of six adults and two children.

Leger estimates the damage to the building to be approximately $50,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
