Springfield firefighters rescue two women in CT River

Posted: Updated:

The Springfield Fire Department assisted with a rescue on the Connecticut River on Saturday morning.

Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told CBS 3 that they were called to the Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club just after 10 a.m.

Leger said two women were learning to row when their boat capsized.

While they were wearing life jackets, Leger said they did not have the upper body strength to swim to shore due to the current in the river.

Both women were recovered, and everybody is OK.
