Officials at the Dakin Humane Society are reporting a scam in which people say they are collecting money on the facility's behalf; but they're not.
Dakin leaders told CBS 3 that the solicitors are usually two women who have small dogs.
They have been asking for money in outdoor parking lots at popular stores and restaurants in Springfield, West Springfield and Holyoke. The individuals have been asking for money near the cars, rather than the businesses' doors.
Police have been notified and suggest if you're involved in a similar situation to contact the local police department.
