A portion of Route 5 in West Springfield is now open after being shut down for several hours as police there cleaned up a car accident involving a motorcycle.
The West Springfield Police Department told CBS 3 that the accident happened on Route 5 southbound near the McDonald's.
Police said one of their officers attempted to pull over a motorcycle, but the driver, Heriberto Robbles, 43, of Springfield, took off.
The officer stopped the pursuit, but police said Robbles kept going, ran a red light and slammed into an SUV.
Robbles was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries. However, police said he is expected to survive.
He will be facing a range of charges including failure to stop and receiving stolen material.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
