A Springfield police officer had to be taken to Baystate Medical Center to be checked out for a shoulder injury Tuesday night.
It happened after the officer was called for an unruly man at the corner of Dwight Street and Jefferson Avenue in the city's North End.
The officer called in for backup after the man would not calm down. Multiple police cars and at least four ambulances responded to the scene.
Police say the man in question was on some sort of narcotic.
The police officer is expected to be released from Baystate Tuesday night.
Meantime, the man in custody was also taken to Baystate to be treated for narcotics. He also faces multiple charges, including assault and battery on a police officer.
