WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A deadly motorcycle accident closed down traffic on the Memorial Bridge between Springfield and West Springfield on Tuesday night.

West Springfield Police Capt. Daniel Spaulding tells CBS3 that Michael Strom, 49, of Farmington, CT, failed to yield onto the rotary while traveling west on the Memorial Bridge. He hit a white sedan with his motorcycle before crashing into a guardrail. He suffered severe head trauma and later succumbed to his injuries.

A reconstruction team on the scene is working to determine if speed was a factor. Capt. Spaulding says Strom was at fault.

There were no other injuries reported.

The bridge will remain closed as emergency crews investigate.

CBS 3 will continue to monitor this story and bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
