Springfield police have arrested a man on several serious sexual charges involving a minor, as well as possessing hundreds of bags of heroin and cocaine.
Investigators arrested Victor Garcia, 38, of Springfield after an early morning investigation.
Officers with the Springfield Police Department's Warrant Apprehension Unit visited a Ringgold Street address at around 6:00 a.m. in their search for Garcia, who had several outstanding warrants for sex crimes.
Investigators say, while talking to Garcia's wife, they heard someone running upstairs toward a bathroom.
The officers chased the man, who was identified as Garcia, and he slammed the bathroom door to block their path. After forcing their way through, officers saw him trying to flush hundreds of bags of heroin down the toilet. After Garcia struggled briefly with the officers, they were able to take him into custody
Investigators retrieved the bags of heroin because they clogged the toilet's tank. Upon searching the apartment, they found two large bags of cocaine, drug packaging paraphernalia, and 477 bags of heroin.
Garcia is now facing eight counts of statutory rape charges, as well as charges of sodomy, inducing a minor for sexual intercourse, resisting arrest, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
