Senator Elizabeth Warren was in Holyoke Friday afternoon, attending the Girls Inc. Teach-Back Friday event.
More than 40 girls were on hand to deliver presentations on the activities they learned during a four-week summer program on the University of Massachusetts campus.
Those activities cover the STEM topics of science, technology, education research and math.
Warren said it's important for young women to prepare for their future.
"These are young girls. These are girls who are 12 and 13 years old who are just waking up to their futures, and they're seeing those futures increasingly in math and science and engineering and technology. This is not only about the future of these girls. These girls are our future," explained Warren.
Organizers of the event said the chance to deliver presentations allowed the girls to reflect on what they learned, but also provided an opportunity to work on their public speaking and presentation skills.
