WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The 104th Fighter Wing hosted a Commander's Call ceremony on Saturday at Barnes Air National Guard Base.

Col. Kenneth Lambrich was awarded the Legion of Merit following years of performing outstanding services to the United States as a commander.

A part of some changes, Lt. Col. Ann Ware was promoted to colonel.

Maj. Jason Roberts handed off command of  a flight to 1st Lt. Jason Hickox.

Also during the ceremony, the wing announced its new command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Maryanne Walts.

"Thirty-three years ago, when I first came in, I was the minority," said Walts. "And here I am today. Women have been given so many opportunities, and being the first female command chief in the 104th, I look at all these younger females and they're looking up to me also."

Walts took over the position from Chief Master Sgt. Todd Fappiano, who was command chief for the last four years.
