Posted: Updated:

The parents of a four-week-old infant that died after being left in a hot car in Statesville were arrested in connection to the child's death, according to Statesville police.

Sherrie Tiesha Clay and Shakee Duquan Robinson were arrested on Monday and charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse.

The incident happened on July 27, when police say the couple returned home, but left their four-week-old son in the car.

Two hours later, police said, the child's aunt found him and, with Clay, took him to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he died the next day.

On Monday, police said it had been determined that the child had died from hyperthermia.

Clay and Robinson were then arrested and taken to the Iredell County Jail. They were each placed under a $200,000 bond.

The couple's remaining children were placed into temporary custody.
