HARTFORD, CT (WSHM) -

A Hartford police officer with Springfield ties has been arrested for shoplifting.

Luis Feliciano turned himself in on Tuesday after allegedly carrying out an elaborate scheme to rob a Walmart where he was working security.

He has been placed on leave.

Investigators say he was caught on camera in his uniform stealing merchandise.

Items stolen include ground beef and a Playstation console.

Feliciano worked as a loss prevention officer at a Springfield Walmart in the past, and also had his department-issued weapon stolen in Springfield.

According to MassLive archives, Feliciano was not hired as a Springfield police officer after the civil service exam because he had been implicated in a murder, but was later cleared.
