Driver wrecks SUV after 100 mph police chase in Hadley, Amherst

A Holyoke man who had attempted to evade police in Amherst was involved in a massive car wreck in front of Esselon Café in Hadley.

Hadley police resumed the chase when it crossed the town line after officers in Amherst attempted to stop a Chevrolet Equinox SUV early Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle continued through Hadley at speeds over 100 mph before he crashed into a utility police and destroyed the SUV near Russell and West streets, police said.

The 20-year-old driver was transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. He was issued criminal charges from both Amherst and Hadley police departments.

Hadley police charged the man with operating with a revoked license, speeding, marked lanes, failing to stop for a stop sign/red light, refusing to stop for a police officer and operating to endanger, police said.

Northampton police were also on the scene to assist in Hadley.
