NORTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -

A West Springfield man has been arrested and charged with robbing a Northampton credit union Thursday afternoon.

Police say 53-year old Michael Lucey held up the Freedom Credit Union at the Stop & Shop mall on King Street.

Police say Lucey has a lengthy criminal record. They tracked him down to the Knights Inn Hotel in West Springfield.

Lucey admitted to the robbery and told police he did it because he wanted to go back to jail.

He was arraigned in court Friday on charges related to the robbery.
