SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

It was a big night for the game of basketball as well as a big night for Springfield as all eyes were on the city for the 2014 Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement.

Legends of the game gathered at Springfield Symphony Hall on Friday night for the event.

Hundreds of fans lined Court Square to catch a glimpse.

Alonzo Mourning, David Stern and Mitch Richmond headline the new class of hall of famers.

In total,  nine players plus the women's team from Immaculata College have been added to the Hall of Fame.

Springfield residents say it's an exciting night that allows the city to showcase itself.

"Just meeting everybody is a really cool experience, having all the hall of famers come in, try to get some autographs is always a fun deal," said Joseph Arvesen.

Magic Johnson and other big stars of the game also attended Friday night's enshrinement.

CBS 3's Hugh Zeitlin will have a complete wrap-up of the events on Sunday's Valley Sports Replay.
