Police are investigating the city's ninth homicide of the year and second in the last two days.
Police told CBS 3 that they responded to a shot-spotter activation near the DeBerry Elementary School just after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
When they arrived, police said they found the victim, 26-year-old Lamar Kelly of Springfield, suffering from a single gunshot wound.
They said Kelly was rushed to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.
Police said detectives processing the scene found a large bag of white powder on Kelly.
They believe it is cocaine.
Investigators said this was not a random shooting and it appears to be drug or gang related
Police said they have no description of a suspect at this time, but they are searching for a small gray Honda that was seen speeding away from the scene.
